Why screen and calls may appear to turn off or end unexpectedly

Last Update date : Jul 29. 2026

If calls suddenly appear to end and the screen appears to turn off while using your Galaxy Z Flip, the issue may be caused by nearby magnetic objects. Galaxy Z Flip devices include sensors that detect whether the device is folded or unfolded. Certain magnetic accessories or objects placed too near the device may sometimes affect  the sensor and cause the device to behave as if it were folded.

Note: Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.

Galaxy Z Flip devices include a sensor that detects magnets and recognises whether the device is fully folded or unfolded. If magnetic objects such as magnetic phone cases, magnetic stickers, or golf ball markers are placed near the device, it may incorrectly recognise itself as folded even when it is open.

If you use magnetic accessories near the device, turning off the Close phone to end calls setting may help prevent calls from ending unexpectedly.
