How to block incoming calls on a Galaxy phone
Blocking unwanted calls on your Samsung Galaxy phone is a simple way to reduce spam and improve privacy. Whether you're dealing with persistent telemarketers, unknown callers, or saved contacts, you can easily manage blocked numbers directly from your device.
1. How to Block Calls Using Call Logs
If you've received an unwanted call and want to block the number directly from your call history, follow these steps:
- Open the Phone app and tap Recents at the bottom of the screen.
- Find the number you want to block, swipe to it, and tap the Information icon next to it.
- Select Block to add the number to your blocked list. To unblock later, return to this menu and tap Unblock.
2. How to Block Numbers from the Phone App
You can manually add numbers to your blocked list through the Phone app settings. This method also allows you to block unknown or private callers:
- Open the Phone app and tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings or Call settings, depending on your device model.
- Tap Blocked numbers or Blocking mode.
- Add the number you want to block or toggle on Block unknown/private numbers to prevent calls from hidden numbers.
- To unblock a number, tap the minus icon next to the listed number.
3. How to Block Contacts from the Contacts App
If the number you want to block is saved in your Contacts, you can manage it directly from the Contacts app:
- Open the Contacts app and find the contact you want to block.
- Tap the contact to open their details.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Block number.
- Confirm your choice to block the number.
4. Additional Things to Check
- Ensure your device's software is up to date. Outdated software may limit blocking features or cause compatibility issues.
- Check if third-party call-blocking apps are installed. These apps may override your device's native blocking settings.
- Verify your network carrier supports call-blocking features. Some carriers may have restrictions or additional tools for managing spam calls.
5. Supported Samsung Galaxy Devices
Call-blocking features are available on most Samsung Galaxy devices, including:
Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25, Galaxy S26, Galaxy Z Fold series, Galaxy Z Flip series, and Galaxy A series.
6. Why Blocking May Not Work
- The blocked number may be using a different carrier or VoIP service that bypasses standard blocking mechanisms.
- Your device's blocking settings may have been accidentally disabled or reset.
- The number may be changing frequently, making it difficult to block effectively.
