What is Offline Finding on a Samsung SmartTag?
How to Use Offline Finding Feature on Samsung SmartTag
The Offline Finding feature on your Samsung SmartTag allows you to locate misplaced items even when the tag is offline. This works through a network of Samsung Galaxy devices that have agreed to act as find nodes, relaying your SmartTag's location via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and your Samsung account.
1. How Does Offline Finding Work?
When your SmartTag is offline, nearby Samsung Galaxy devices that have enabled Offline Finding can detect its signal via BLE. These devices act as find nodes, sending the SmartTag's location to Samsung's secure server, which then notifies you through the SmartThings app.
- Find nodes are only activated with user consent, ensuring privacy.
- Location data is encrypted and anonymized for security.
2. How to Activate Offline Finding
- Open the SmartThings app on your Samsung Galaxy device.
- Select your SmartTag from the list of connected devices.
- Go to Settings > Offline Finding.
- Toggle the switch to enable Offline Finding.
- Ensure your Samsung account is signed in and your device is connected to the internet.
3. Supported Samsung Galaxy Devices
Offline Finding works with most Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 8.0 or later. Compatible devices include Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy A series models.
4. Additional Things to Check
- Ensure your SmartTag is within Bluetooth range during setup.
- Verify that your Samsung account is linked to the SmartThings app.
- Make sure your device has location services enabled for SmartThings.
5. Why Offline Finding May Not Work
- Your SmartTag may be out of range of any find nodes.
- Offline Finding might be disabled on your SmartTag or device.
- Network connectivity issues could delay location updates.
