How to install a Samsung refrigerator water line
Installing a refrigerator water supply line ensures proper functionality of your ice maker and water dispenser. Follow these detailed steps to connect the water line using either copper or plastic tubing, ensuring leak-free performance and optimal water pressure.
1. How to Install a Refrigerator Water Supply Line
To install the water supply line for your refrigerator, follow these steps:
- Shut off the main water supply: Turn off the water supply to prevent leaks during installation.
- Locate the nearest cold drinking water line: Identify the closest cold water line and install a pipe clamp and shut-off valve.
- Connect the water line installation kit: Attach the provided water line kit to the shut-off valve.
2. What Items Are Needed for Water Supply Line Connection?
Ensure you have the following items to complete the connection:
-For copper tubing: ¼" copper tubing, ¼" compression nut (1 pc), and ferrule (2 pc).
-For plastic tubing: ¼" plastic tubing with a molded end (Bulb) and ¼" compression nut (1 pc).
3. How to Connect the Water Supply Line to the Refrigerator
- Connect the household water line: Attach the household water line to the assembled compression fitting. Ensure the compression nut and ferrule are properly positioned if using copper tubing, or insert the molded end of the plastic tubing into the compression fitting.
- Tighten the compression nut: Securely tighten the compression nut onto the compression fitting without overtightening.
- Turn on the water supply: Restore the water supply and check for leaks. If leaks are detected, turn off the water, inspect the connections, and tighten if necessary.
- Flush the water line: Press and hold the water dispenser lever to flush the water line and filter. Dispense at least 2–3 gallons (7–11 liters) of water to remove air and impurities.
- Test the water pressure: Verify the water pressure is at least 20 psi by dispensing water into a measuring cup for 10 seconds. If less than 5.75 ounces (163 grams) are dispensed, consider installing a booster pump.
- Allow the ice maker to produce ice: After turning on the refrigerator, let the ice maker run for 1–2 days. Discard the first 1–2 batches of ice to remove any remaining impurities.
4. Additional Things to Check
-Only connect the water line to a drinkable water source.
-If repairing or disassembling the water line, cut off ¼" of the plastic tubing to ensure a snug, leak-free connection.
-Under normal conditions, the water dispenser fills a 5.75 oz (170 cc) cup in about 10 seconds.
-If water is not dispensed after holding the lever for over 3 minutes, verify the water supply valve is open and the refrigerator is powered.
